Guide to RPS pin and RPS ing

When setting up or re-provisioning a Yealink device, the device may prompt you for an RPS pin or RPS ing code. These are two different security mechanisms from Yealink that prevent a device from being activated by unauthorised parties via their Redirection and Provisioning Service (RPS).

In this article we explain the difference and how to resolve both situations.

What is the difference?

Yealink uses two methods to securely activate devices via RPS:

Method

When

How to resolve

RPS ing
(screenshot 2)

Device asks for the last 5 digits of the serial number

Can be entered yourself by typing the last 5 digits of the device's serial number (SN)

RPS pin
(screenshot 3)

Device asks for a unique pin code (often on older devices from before 2018)

Must be requested from our support team

You can tell which method applies by looking at the screen of the device when it prompts for a code.

Resolving RPS ing (click to expand/collapse)

If the device prompts for an RPS ing code, you can resolve this yourself.

Step 1: Locate the serial number Turn the device over. The serial number (SN) label is on the back, above the MAC address label, below the two ethernet ports (PC and Internet).

Step 2: Note the last 5 digits Count back 5 digits from the end of the serial number.

Step 3: Enter the digits on the device Use the number keys to type in the 5 digits.

Step 4: Confirm with "Submit" / "OK" The device will restart and continue with provisioning. The code only needs to be entered once.

Resolving RPS pin (click to expand/collapse)

If the device prompts for an RPS pin, you cannot derive this code yourself. The pin code is automatically generated by the Yealink RPS platform and is unique per device.

Step 1: Note the device details Pick up the device and write down:

  • The MAC address (on the sticker on the bottom)

  • (optional) The serial number (above the MAC address label)

Step 2: Contact our support team Provide the MAC address.

Step 3: Enter the pin code on the device Type the received pin code on the screen where the code is requested.

Step 4: Confirm the input The device will continue with provisioning. This code also only needs to be entered once.

Why is this necessary?

Yealink has tightened the security of the RPS service. As a result, certain devices — particularly older models — must complete a one-time verification before they can be automatically configured. This prevents a device that has, for example, been stolen from being easily connected within a different environment.
